Concept

The working concept will be the player is sent to a penal colony where there only hope of return to society is by reaching the end of the game (gathering a rare resource is the current concept; avatar style). Most people have given up on returning and are doing the best they can to live their life in this massive colony in the numerous outposts scattered across the zones.

The player arrives and is given (narratively why are they captain) a sub and a minimal crew, the only help theyll be given, and told to retrieve the resource. The player will have to traverse the zones and the dangers in each zone to reach the deepest point and retrieve the resource. In addition to the dangers of the local lifeforms, the play must also navigate the complex social society setup by the various factios that ended up forming over time, becoming too friendly with one faction could lead to dire problems down the road, or could become a saving grace.

Factions

  • Have different factions?
  • Factions would have unique stories associated with them
  • One faction should be a militant controlling interest faction (representing the rich? or military?) mostly near the upper areas
  • Pirate/Outlaw faction should be found in the deeper zones and hostile with controlling faction? (penal colony faction?)
  • Other small factions possible?
    • religious cults?

Possible Mission Types

  • Monter Hunting -> Hunt a group of monsters
  • Resource Gathering -> Go collect a group of resources and return them to outpost
  • Cargo Transport -> Carry cargo between outposts
  • Crew Transport -> Ferry npc's to an outpost
  • Scout Outpost location -> Scan/Scout potential new outpost location
  • Repair Beacon -> Locate and bring communication beacon back online
  • Outpost repair -> fix decrepit outpost and make it habitable again
  • Hunt Pirates -> locate and sink a pirate sub
  • Locate Faction Sub -> locate sunk faction sub
